I have a range of things in my toolbox. I’m not locked into a style or school of psychology. I use what works. From a theoretical perspective, my approach is both, Psycho-dynamically and Existentially informed. I’ve been highly influenced by the work of Dr. Irvin Yalom on Existential Psychoanalysis and John Bowlby on Attachment Theory, and strive to integrate their values in my clinical work.
It is my belief that there’s no one solution that suits all and therefore, my approach is highly individualized and varies depending upon who you are and what you want to work on. As a rule, however, my sessions are active and directed. People who have been in talk therapy before typically tell me that working with me is different and that we are breaking new ground rather than rehashing familiar territory.
A big part of what I do is to help my clients recognize parts of themselves that lie just below the surface but are running the show. Most of us make it to adulthood with an array of beliefs and behaviors that once served us, but now block us from connecting with ourselves and others in healthy, fulfilling ways.
They become so ingrained that we end up using them unconsciously all day long. It’s virtually impossible for us to see and disarm them without the help of a skillful professional.
Within the first few sessions most of my clients begin seeing not only their blocks, but the information that lies hidden underneath. The disconnection to this inner information is often what lies at the root of the problem that prompts people to see me. Tapping into it helps them make the shifts they want to make.
